SAN JOSE — A man died after crashing his car into a tree at a South San Jose intersection late Tuesday morning, police said.
The fatal wreck marked the second roadway death of the day, after a hit-and-run driver killed a pedestrian in East San Jose several hours earlier.
The most recent crash was reported at 11:45 a.m. on Santa Teresa Boulevard near San Ignacio Avenue, according to San Jose police.
“The driver suffered major injuries and was pronounced deceased at a local hospital,” police stated.
No other vehicles were involved. Police said northbound traffic on Santa Teresa Boulevard was expected to be closed starting at San Ignacio Avenue while investigators examined the crash site.
Additional details, including the circumstances of the collision, were not immediately available Tuesday afternoon. Authorities did not immediately release the driver’s identity pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.
The incident was the city’s 36th traffic death of the year, and occurred seven hours after a woman was killed by a hit-and-run driver on South Jackson Avenue.
San Jose in 2022 continued to outpace the total of 60 traffic deaths from last year, which itself was a 25-year peak matched in 2015 and 2019.
