In an extremely close vote, Leland basketball player Jacob Kuverji is the Bay Area News Group’s boys high school athlete of the week for Jan. 10-16 after finishing first in the poll.
When the voting ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Kuverji had 7,327 votes (45.67%) to narrowly edge Mission San Jose soccer player Noel Estrada (7,080 votes, 44.13%).
Branham soccer player Ian Hutt was third.

Kuverji scored 21 points to lead Leland to a 67-63 victory in overtime over Leigh in a crucial Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt. Hamilton Division game. The result improved the Chargers’ record to 14-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Earlier in the week, Kuverji, a senior, scored 15 points in a 65-41 rout of Piedmont Hills.
