1.13 million unemployed California workers trapped in EDD payment limbo

The state’s Employment Development Department said it is aware of at least 1.13 million unpaid jobless claims over the four months from March through July. The unpaid claims break down this way: 889,000 unemployed California workers who “may be eligible with additional information” and another 239,000 whose claims are “pending EDD resolution.”

After a hearing last week, however, the EDD made it clear that the 889,000 workers need to provide more information to the state agency if they are going to get paid.

“We can’t approve these claims at this time,” EDD spokesperson Loree Levy said. “These claimants are basically ineligible unless they follow up on notices they’ve been given.”

How beloved is Trump in California? Biden beating him by 39 points, poll finds

According to a new poll from the Institute of Governmental Studies at UC Berkeley, just 28% of likely voters favor President Donald Trump while 67% back Joe Biden, giving the former vice president an impressive 39-point lead — ahead of the record-breaking 30% margin by which Hillary Clinton won the state four years ago.

Republicans reject Trump’s proposal to delay the election

Several GOP lawmakers said November’s election would take place as scheduled and in accordance with the Constitution following the president’s suggestion, Politico reported last week. Hours after those members of Congress dismissed the notion the 2020 election would be delayed, Trump doubled down on questioning its legitimacy as a reason to postpone, saying that large numbers of mail-in ballots amid the coronavirus pandemic might mean “you never even know who won the election.”
