RICHMOND — A man was shot and killed Thursday afternoon, reportedly by a suspect who drove up alongside of him and fired several times into his car.

Police are not identifying the victim, but say he was fatally shot around 6:20 p.m. Thursday. He was driving a dark green sedan on the 4600 block of Cutting Boulevard, when another vehicle pulled up alongside him and fired several shots into the passenger side.

The victim was struck multiple times and crashed the green sedan into a pole, near the intersection of Cutting Boulevard and S. 45th Street, police said. He died within minutes of the shooting.

Authorities have not yet released a description of the suspect or the vehicle he or she was inside.

This is Richmond’s first homicide of 2020, police said.

Richmond police Lt. Matt Stonebraker said investigators have closed off a section of Cutting Boulevard while they investigate the homicide. The roadway is expected to remain closed until approximately 11:30 p.m., he said.

Police say anyone who witnessed the crime or has information about it should call Richmond police Det. C. Decious at 510-621-1747.
