SAN JOSE — One man was killed in an overnight shooting Friday in East San Jose, according to police.

Shortly after 2 a.m., San Jose police officers were called to the 200 block of South White Road, near Alum Rock Avenue, for reports of a person shot, said Officer Gina Tepoorten.

When they arrived, officers found a man lying on the street who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three blocks of White Road — from Alum Rock Avenue to East Hills Drive — were closed in both directions as police searched for a suspect.

The victim’s identity will be released after his formal identification by the coroner’s office and notification of next of kin.

Other details about the shooting, including a possible motive, remained unclear as of early Friday, Tepoorten said.

The shooting marks the city’s 32nd homicide this year. At this time last year, there had been 23.
