Sunday night’s Super Bowl LIV loss was gutting for 49ers fans, as San Francisco lost a 10-point fourth-quarter lead and fell 31-20 to the Kansas City Chiefs.
But things are already looking up for the 49ers: They opened as favorites to win Super Bowl LV after the 2020 regular season, according to SportsBetting.ag. They open as a 5-to-1 bet to earn next year’s championship.
Patrick Mahomes and the Super Bowl champion Chiefs are just behind, billed at +550.
Of course, other shops have different odds looking ahead to next year: Bovada has the Chiefs as favorites with 6-to-1 odds, while the 49ers open at 8-to-1 on that platform.
The Lamar Jackson-led Baltimore Ravens sit at third, with 8-to-1 odds on both platforms. The frequent champion New England Patriots begin with the sixth-shortest odds on SportsBetting.ag, tied with the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints at 16-to-1.
The Raiders’ odds are surprisingly short, too. Perhaps they got a little Vegas bump heading into their first season in Sin City, opening tied for the 11th-shortest odds at 25-to-1 alongside the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks and more. That could be the oddsmakers reacting to rumors that five-time champion Tom Brady could end up under center for the Raiders next year at age 43.
The Miami Dolphins are tied with Washington’s football franchise with the worst odds: 100-to-1.
The 49ers may not be champions tonight, but they could be again soon.
