Cupertino student in playwrights fest

Cupertino High School sophomore Tiffany Liu is one of four winners of this year’s Young Playwrights Contest, held by San Francisco-based PlayGround. Liu’s short play, “If Only We Were Humen,” will debut Live online June 12 as part of the PlayGround Zoom Fest.

Liu an actress with Cupertino Actors’ Theater and a captain of her school’s comedy improvisation team. “If Only We Were Humen,” one of her first plays, is about a pair of ocelots whose home in the rainforest is threatened. It will be performed by professional actors along with the other three winning scripts beginning at 8 p.m.

The presentation is the finale of the 12th annual Howard and Lenore Klein Foundation Young Playwrights Project, which champions playwrights from Bay Area high schools.

Classes for older adults

Bay Area Older Adults is hosting free online classes in June for residents ages 50 and older. Topics include “The Biology and Business of Bees” and “How to Prevent Drug Side Effects.”

COVID-19 testing sites

The Santa Clara County Public Health Department recommends that anyone experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 immediately call their medical provider and seek testing.

It is also recommended that workers who have frequent interaction with the public should be tested, even if they have no symptoms. These include healthcare workers, first responders, frontline grocery store employees, food delivery people and restaurant, gas station or convenience store employees.
