ORLANDO — Steve Kerr and several members of the Warriors organization will be in attendance when Draymond Green sees his jersey go into the rafters at Michigan State on Tuesday.
Kerr, along with general manager Bob Myers, team owner Joe Lacob and some of Green’s teammates will head to East Lansing in the middle of a five-game trip spanning nine days to celebrate with Green, who will have his No. 23 jersey retired by Michigan State.
The trip will come at the end of a back-to-back set in Orlando and Atlanta, and before Wednesday’s game in Charlotte. In one of the toughest travel stretches of the season, the fact that multiple Warriors are attending the ceremony shows what Green means to the organization.
Kerr’s presence is especially meaningful. His dynamic relationship with Green — built on fiery confrontations and the highs of successes — have helped the Warriors win three championships in the last five years. Kerr has asked Green, the last of the core Warriors standing, to accept a teaching role on a young and injury-depleted team off to a 4-17 start during a challenging season.
Stephen Curry won’t be in attendance because he has a routine appointment for his broken hand. Klay Thompson, in the middle of his rehab from a torn ACL, will try to make it from the West Coast.
