Filoli Historic House and Garden returns for the holiday season — but with COVID-19 precautions in place.
“To spread a season of cheer, we have extended our Holidays program into January 2021 and, for the first time, we will be open every night of the week for Holiday Lights,” according to a news release from Kara Newport, chief executive officer at Filoli. “This will allow for slower-paced visits with many moments of beauty throughout the House and Garden. And, we will have all of the measures in place for social distancing, so that visitors can comfortably enjoy this magical time of year with intimate experiences.”
The Woodland Garden and Garden Court spaces have been added to the to allow for greater social distancing.
The estate, which is part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, includes 654 acres of land; it originally was built in 1917 as a private residence for the Bourn family, and later owned by the Roths. Filoli is considered one of the finest remaining country estates of the 20th century, with a 54,000-square foot Georgian Revival mansion, 16 acres of English renaissance gardens and a 6.8-acre “Gentlemen’s Orchard.” In addition, it has a nature preserve with 7 miles of hiking trails.
Holiday schedule
The Woodside estate — at 86 Cañada Road in Woodside — is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily (Note: The facility is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.) Ticket prices are:
Adults: $28; $15 for members
Children (5-17): $15; $8 for members
Children younger than 5: free
Filoli also is open from 4 to 8 p.m. daily. Ticket prices are:

Children (5-17): $20; $12 for members
Children younger than 5: free
Santa Saturdays: The family-friendly event has been moved outdoors to the Woodland Garden Court; it’s scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 5, 12 and 19.
Theme Nights are slated for 4 to 8 p.m. Monday nights: Themes include Night Lights on Nov. 23; Festive Face Masks on Nov. 30; Holiday Hats on Dec. 7; Holiday Pajama Party on Dec. 14; Solstice Night on Dec. 21; and Vintage Christmas on Dec. 28.
