Where are you planning to ski this winter? If you need ideas — and a little apres inspiration, too — look to Jetsetter’s recent list of the nine best ski destinations to visit this winter.
We have no hard feelings over the exclusion of Lake Tahoe (sniff) because the travel website’s writers went out of their way to scour the rest of the world for under-the-radar (or “blissfully uncrowded,” as they say) mountain gems, like Canada’s Sunshine Village (No. 3) as opposed to Whistler. Located less than 10 miles from downtown Banff, it features up to 30 feet of snow per season and the highest lift-serviced skiing in Canada. Did we mention the heated gondolas?
They found similar hidden gems in Europe, like Mürren Switzerland (No. 2). While most Swiss ski resorts are posh and modern, Mürren is cozy and old school, with a pedestrian-only village of timber chalets. Prefer to keep it domestic? Head to Vail, Colorado (No. 4) or Jackson Hole, Wyoming (No. 7). They both ranked in the top five of U.S. News & World Report’s recent list of the 12 best ski vacations in the USA as well.
