“What a year” has turned out to be the understatement of 2020.
Political cartoonist Tom Meyer has chosen 15 pieces that defined the year — the good, the bad and the ugly.
Meyer drew essential levity to hard news headlines such as “Californians greet week with head-spinning new shutdowns” from March, “Mark Zuckerberg at Senate hearing: ‘We didn’t do enough’” in April and “Disneyland postpones July 17 park reopening until further notice” as well as others.
He also made us laugh through celebrations dampened by the coronavirus, like drive-thru and virtual graduation ceremonies held for the class of 2020 in late spring, before reminding us that Gov. Gavin Newsom’s social distancing policies applied to the “megapod of dolphins” seen off the coast.
Then came the statewide re-openings and wildfires of summer, which were followed by renewed shutdowns and elections in the fall.
