A teenage star gamer and YouTube creator has been barred for life from the game Fortnite.
Jarvis Khattri, 17 — he’s known by his first name — competes for the esports team FaZe Clan and runs a YouTube channel that has more than 2 million subscribers.
In a tearful video he posted Monday, the British teen admitted to the offense of posting video in which he played Fortnite using aimbots, a software add-on that automatically aims a player’s weapons in shooting games.
Fortnite creator Epic Games says it has a zero-tolerance policy for the use of cheating hacks.
“I made a massive mistake,” Jarvis says in his apology video, which has been viewed almost 7 million times.
Some supporters have started a campaign to get him reinstated, pointing out that two pro players who cheated earlier this year were banned for only two weeks and then allowed to play in the $30 million Fortnite World Cup. Those gamers — XXiF and Ronaldo — had not used aimbots but had collaborated with other players during tournament qualifiers.
