OAKLAND — One person died and another was hospitalized Wednesday after gunfire broke out in East Oakland, police said, one of two shootings less than three hours apart in that area of the city.
Police did not immediately announce any arrests.
The gunfire happened around 2:49 p.m. in the 7600 block of International Boulevard, police said.
One of the shooting victims died at the scene. Two relatives identified him to this news organization as Ronnie Green, 41 of Oakland, the father of a one-year-old daughter.
“Ronnie was a lovely person,” said his mother, Cookie Woodfox. “He got along with everybody. He was a great kid. He helped people out.”
An ambulance took the other person to a hospital. That person’s condition was not known immediately.
Police said they do not have a motive for the shooting.
The carnage came less than three hours after a man was shot more than once and hospitalized in stable condition. That man, believed to be in his 20s, was found around 12:05 p.m. in the 1900 block of 82nd Avenue, where police said they believe he made it on his own power after being shot in another location.
