(CNN) — The adoption posting for a cumbersome cat has gone viral, drawing “overwhelming” interest in giving the hefty animal a forever home, says the shelter where he’s housed.
A 2-year-old, 26-pound tabby named BeeJay became an internet hit after Philadelphia’s Morris Animal Refuge shared photos in a bid to get him adopted.
“Mr. B is a CHONK. He’s a chonk of a chonk. He redefines the term,” the shelter wrote.
BeeJay is “genuinely big-boned,” the description went on, though it allowed he may have cadged a few too many treats.
Since the posting Thursday, the shelter has been flooded with inquiries from potential adopters. Now, he just needs to complete a thorough checkup with his vet before he can officially meet the lucky new family.
The Philadelphia Police Department even offered him a spot on the force.
“Um, if he doesn’t get adopted (highly unlikely) he’s welcome to join our K9 Unit as its first feline (he IS a cat, right?!) member,” the department tweeted.
It doesn’t look like he’ll have to trade in lounging and eating for a full-time job just yet.
