A woman died in an apparent rollover collision early Friday on Highway 85 in San Jose, authorities said.

When California Highway Patrol officers arrived on the scene, just south of Camden Avenue, around 1:30 a.m., they found a woman, believed to be between 17 and 20 years old, dead on the pavement and three abandoned cars, CHP said in a news release.

Upon initial investigation, officers believe the woman had been either the driver or a passenger of a white Honda Accord. It left the road, hit the dirt embankment to its right and rolled over, ejecting the victim and killing her.

There was no noticeable damage to the two other cars, a green Honda Civic and a green Honda Accord, and it was not immediately known to what extent those cars were involved in the crash, the CHP said.

All three cars appeared to have been stolen, the CHP said. None of the thefts had been reported, but police cited the appearance of the ignition as evidence.

The incident prompted CHP officers to shut down all three northbound lanes of Highway 85, as well as the on- and off-ramps at Camden Avenue, for more than two hours. All lanes had reopened by 4:30 a.m.
