George Kittle says he’s not really worried about anything, least of all last week’s box score, ahead of the San Francisco 49ers’ rematch against the Green Bay Packers in the upcoming NFC Championship game this Sunday.
“I’m not really worried about it, it takes care of itself, it’s football,” Kittle told reporters when pressed about his numbers against the Vikings in San Francisco’s 27-10 win over Minnesota last weekend. “Luckily this past week we didn’t have to set up the pass game at all because our run game was so efficient. When you’re running for four yards a carry and you’re rushing 47 times, you don’t really need to throw the ball.”
Kittle sung head coach Kyle Shanahan’s praises for his playcalling rather than questioning why he didn’t see more of the football:
“So what Coach Shanahan does, the balance is always there. But he’s never afraid to run power on back-to-back plays to score a touchdown. It’s just fun to be part of an offense like that. We’ll run power down your throat if we want to.”
Perhaps more than any other pre-game ritual, Kittle later revealed that letters his father sends him before game day “fire him up.”
Teasing reporters, Kittle refused to share dad’s writings himself: “He was on one last week. It was pretty fun. It was a great one. Maybe he’ll share it with you guys at some point.”
