Oprah Winfrey’s CBS interview with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry is building up to be an historic TV event in which the couple is expected to disclose “shocking” details about life in the British royal family — and possibly about certain family members.

The two-hour CBS primetime special airs 8-10 p.m. Pacific time Sunday on CBS broadcast stations. The interview also will stream online at CBS.com and on Paramount+, Hulu with LiveTV, fuboTV, AT&T TV Now and YouTube TV.

Meghan and Harry’s conversation with the talk-show legend comes after they stunned the world by announcing they were stepping away from royal duties, eventually moving to Meghan’s home state of California. It’s also the couple’s first interview since they announced that she is pregnant with their second child.

Clips released by CBS show that Meghan has long wanted to speak her “truth” and won’t hold back in describing her “almost unsurvivable” life as a high-profile member of the royal family. As Prince Harry’s wife, she was subjected to constant scrutiny and increasing criticism by the United Kingdom’s tabloid press. Some of that criticism was racist and sexist, her supporters say.

In one preview, Meghan appears to accuse the royal family of actively working with the tabloids to encourage lies about her.

When asked by Winfrey how she feels about the palace hearing her speak out, the former TV actress replies, “I don’t know how they could expect that, after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that ‘The Firm’ is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us.” “The Firm” is a nickname within the royal family for themselves.

Certainly, the interview is must-see TV for both fans and critics of Meghan and Harry and of the royal family, including the queen and Prince William and Kate Middleton. It promises to offer rare insight into a famous institution that’s been around for more than 1,000 years.

Royal family members have rarely agreed to sit down for tell-all interviews because they often end up embarrassing the participants themselves, as was the case for Prince Charles in 1994 and Prince Andrew in 2019. They also usually embarrass the queen and do damage to the reputation to the monarchy, which was the result of Princess Diana’s bombshell interview in 1995, when she talked about Charles’ infidelity and claimed, similar to Meghan, that “the Firm” had been plotting against her.
