Evacuation orders were  issued Thursday for Shasta County residents in the area of the Mountain Fire, which ignited at noon and within barely two hours had burned 600 acres.

By 10 p.m., Highway 299 had reopened, and evacuation orders were lifted for much of the area between Belle Vista and Jones Valley.

The fire was 20 percent contained at that time and holding at 600 acres, CalFire said. One structure had been destroyed.

The updated evacuation area is roughly bounded by Bear Mountain Road, Dry Creek Road, Creek Trail and Squaw Grass Trail.

The evacuation center is CrossPointe Church, 2960 Hartnell Avenue.

Power was expected to be restored to Jones Valley by 8 a.m. Friday, the Shasta County sheriff’s office said.
