Cooling centers are set to open in the South Bay and East Bay on Wednesday amid a searing heat wave.

The National Weather Service forecast office in Monterey has issued a heat advisory covering interior locations of the region, as well as Monterey and San Benito counties. The advisory is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and run through 9 p.m.

Temperatures will be 6 to 12 degrees above average on the coast and 15 to 20 degrees above average away from the water, according to the weather service. Daytime highs are expected to range from 74 degrees in San Francisco to 102 degrees in Concord.

The weather service said the “robust warming trend” will pose a moderate health risk for vulnerable populations. Residents, however, can seek relief at the following cooling centers:

Santa Clara County

  • Campbell Community Center, 1 W. Campbell Ave., Campbell; 1 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Gilroy Library, 305 W. 6th St., Gilroy; 1 to 6 p.m.
  • Morgan Hill Library, 660 W. Main St, Morgan Hill; 1 to 6 p.m.
  • Mitchell Park Community Center, 3700 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto; 1 to 6 p.m.
  • Mayfair Community Center, 2039 Kammerer Ave., San Jose; 1 to 7 p.m.
  • Camden Community Center, 3369 Union Ave., San Jose; 1 to 7 p.m.
  • Seven Trees Community Center, 3590 Cas Drive, San Jose; 1 to 7 p.m.
  • Roosevelt Community Center, 901 E. Santa Clara St., San Jose; 1 to 7 p.m.
  • Cypress Community Center, 1 W. Campbell Ave, San Jose; 1 to 7 p.m.
  • Saratoga Library, 13650 Saratoga Ave., Saratoga; 1 to 6 p.m.
  • Mountain View Community Center, 201 S. Rengstorff Ave., 1 to 7 p.m.

Contra Costa County

  • 4545 Delta Fair Blvd., Antioch; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • 400 Ellinwood Way, Pleasant Hill; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • 151 Linus Pauling Drive, Hercules; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • 1305 Macdonald Ave., Richmond; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • 2727 Parkside Circle, Concord; 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Visitors are required to wear face coverings and follow other guidance to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Tuesday offered a taste of what’s to come, with a daytime high of 96 degrees in Concord, 94 in Gilroy and Livermore, 92 in San Jose and Redwood City, and 88 in Oakland.

The region will begin to cool off Thursday, though interior locations will remain above average. The cooling trend is expected to continue Friday and into the weekend, with the possibility of unsettled weather but no rain, according to the weather service.
