Library restores services

As “shelter in place” restrictions ease, the Santa Clara County Library District expects to offer limited services in stages, starting later in the month with library material return and curbside pickup of materials placed on hold.

These services will be available Monday through Saturday at all eight county library locations, including Saratoga.

In order to accept returns, the district is establishing a system to quarantine returned materials for 72 hours.

All library facilities are undergoing deep cleanings. Library buildings will remain closed to the public, with the possible exception of limited rooms available as cooling centers, until it is deemed safe to reopen.

“Patron and staff safety are our top priority,” County Librarian Jennifer Weeks said in a statement. “Under the shelter in place order, our staff has been working remotely to provide our patrons with virtual services.”

No late fees are being accrued and due dates have been extended, so no items need to be returned during the libraries’ closure nor immediately following any reintroduction of services.

The district will continue to provide updates about future staged services and the timing and details of the curbside service as information becomes available. For more information, visit sccld.org.

County librarian appointed

Jennifer Weeks was named the new Santa Clara County librarian last month.

Weeks joined the county library district as a graduate intern in 2003; she was serving as acting county librarian prior to her permanent appointment. She has a master’s degree in library and information science from San Jose State University.
