Some travelers pick their destinations based on historic sites, scenery or things to do. Then there are those of us that listen to our stomachs, choosing cities to visit based on gastronomic offerings.
Jetsetter, the travel website, recently released its list of America’s Best Food Cities for 2019, and it’s a delicious mix of destinations known for food trucks, Michelin-starred restaurants and everything in between.
Craving island-inspired cuisine? You’ll find it in Little Haiti or Little Havana in Miami (No. 8). Looking for classic Italian and juicy steaks? Chicago (No. 5) is the spot. And look at Pittsburgh (No. 6), emerging as “the most underrated culinary destination in the entire northeast…renowned for its sandwich, street food, and bar culture.” Who can deny those Polish pierogis?
San Francisco (No. 3) made the list, of course, but was beat out by Portland and New York, for diversity of cuisine and the broadest range of options, from cheap eats to Michelin-starred. U.S. News & World Report disagrees, rating San Francisco No. 1 in its recent Best Foodie Cities in the U.S. And we came in No. 2 in WalletHub’s 2018 Best Foodie Cities in America. So there.
Here’s Jetsetter’s list of the best food cities in America for 2019:
- Portland
- New York
- San Francisco
- Austin
- Chicago
