Former Raider Lincoln Kennedy announced on his radio show he’ll join Brent Musburger on the Raiders radio broadcast this season.

Kennedy, who worked the sideline for radio broadcasts last season, replaces Tom Flores as the color commentator. Musburger fills Greg Papa’s role as the play-by-play voice.

Kennedy played right tackle for the Raiders for eight seasons from 1996-2003, starting 119 of the 121 games he played with the team. He was a key part of the Raiders’ Super Bowl runner-up team in 2002, and played four seasons under Jon Gruden during the head coach’s first stint in Oakland.

“I’ve developed sort of an affinity for the sideline because I see the game from a different angle there than I do from up top,” Kennedy said on his FOX Sports radio show, “The Fellas.” “However, I can’t miss this opportunity. I gotta take it upstairs.”

Kennedy expressed admiration for Musburger, a member of the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame. The two have never worked together, but they met during Kennedy’s playing days when Musburger worked Raiders games.

“I’m a little nervous because I’m gonna be working side-to-side next to one of the more recognizable names ever in broadcasting,” Kennedy said. “For someone like me, who’s been in the business for a while now and I’m finally getting my shot that I’ve longed for to be the main man, the color commentator for the Raiders radio broadcast, to have a legend, somebody who’s been so well-versed in the business, to work with you, it’s a blessing in disguise.

“It doesn’t happen for everybody. I’m just truly thankful and positive that I’m gonna have a chance to work with Brent for the next couple years … He’s a legend. Always thought the world of him.”

Papa, whose ouster irked many a Raider fan after his over two decades calling games, will address the situation publicly for the first time on his radio show Monday afternoon.
