MARTINEZ — A man arrested on suspicion of stabbing an acquaintance to death last week has been charged with murder, court records show.

Gabriel R. Young, 36, was charged Wednesday with a lone count of murder, along with a knife enhancement, in the killing of 37-year-old Omar Smallwood. Police have not disclosed the suspected motive in the crime, but said the suspect and victim knew one another.

Smallwood was stabbed around 6:45 p.m. last Friday, on the 4000 block of Harbor Street in Pittsburg. He was taken to a hospital, where he died later that night.

Police identified Young as a suspect quickly, and arrested him by 2 a.m. the following day.

Young is set to be arraigned Thursday morning. He remains in the county jail, in lieu of $1 million bail.
