“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” — reportedly the most highly awarded play in theater history — kicks of its exclusive West Coast run at San Francisco’s The Curran theater on Oct. 23, organizers announced today.

Tickets for the acclaimed production go on sale to the general public at 11 a.m. March 14. Sign up for priority access to purchase pre-sale tickets at www.HarryPotterThePlay.com. Producers say the production will have an open-ended run.

“We look forward to sharing the wonder and magic of this astonishing show for as long as audiences will have us,” producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender said in a joint statement.

Casting and other information details will be announced in the coming months.

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is actually the eighth story in the Harry Potter series but the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. It’s based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling (series author), Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. The two-part play is by Thorne and directed by John Tiffany.

“We are very excited that San Francisco will be the exclusive West Coast location for ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.’ The magic of the story and the stagecraft are perfect for audiences here, whether they are visitors from around the world or residents of the Bay Area and the region,” said Joe D’Alessandro, president and CEO of the San Francisco Travel Association.

Producers say the show has garnered 25 major U.S. theater awards, including six Tony Awards, and 24 major theatre awards in the U.K.
