As we approach the end of the year, it’s fun to look back at some of the world’s top destinations of 2018 — especially the beloved California spots. A new list by ride-sharing giant Uber, which dropped on Dec. 10, shares one iconic San Francisco landmark with other lists, including TripAdvisor’s 10 best world landmarks. We’ll give you a hint: It’s huge, orange and 81 years old.
San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge is not just a vital Bay Area artery but a stunning feat of architecture visited by a whopping 10 million tourists a year. No wonder it took the eighth most visited spot in the world via Uber. It was joined by another California destination known for pricey parking — that’s right, No. 9, Disneyland — and was in company with some global heavyweights, including Paris’ Arc de Triomphe and London’s Buckingham Palace.
The No. 1 and 2 spots, of course, went to the city that never sleeps and is notorious for bad driving. New York City’s Empire State Building and Freedom Tower took the top two. It is only fitting, then, that New York also took the top spot for the city with the most rides after 2 a.m.
Without further ado, here is Uber’s list of the most popular travel destinations across the world. To see the full list of top 15 destinations, visit www.uber.com.
