STANFORD — Stanford’s top two quarterbacks remain questionable for this week’s home game against Arizona, coach David Shaw said Tuesday.
Starter K.J. Costello has missed three consecutive games (and four overall) because of a thumb injury. Costello’s replacement, Davis Mills, sat out last week’s 34-16 home loss to UCLA because of a calf injury. The job fell Saturday to redshirt freshman Jack West, who completed 15 of 32 passes for 143 yards and was sacked seven times.
Stanford (3-4, 2-3 Pac-12) will be without senior kicker Jet Toner for the rest of the season, Shaw announced. Toner left Saturday’s game with an apparent injury to his kicking leg, suffered while covering a kickoff.
He has made 12 of 16 field goal attempts this season, including a 39-yarder in the final seconds that beat Oregon State 31-28 on Sept. 28. He is 47 of 57 in his career.
