Satellite imagery from the wildfires burning in Southern California shows where the new hot spots are.
The map above from the National Wildfire Coordinating Group shows the burn areas of the Thomas, Rye, Creek, Skirball and Lilac fires. Red dots indicate hot spots less than 12 hours old, orange dots 12-24 hours old, yellow 24-48 hours. The yellow cross-hatched area is burn zone without active hot spots.
The latest update shows the Thomas Fire, in Ventura County, moving west in the hills above Ojai and in the coastal area southeast of Carpinteria.

The hot spots are located using infrared and spectroradiometer images.
