SAN JOSE — A motorcyclist died Sunday night when she lost control of her bike on Interstate 680 and was hit by multiple vehicles, authorities said.

The woman was traveling northbound on 680, south of Jackson Avenue, at about 10:30 p.m. when she swerved to avoid debris on the freeway. The bike, a 1998 Kawasaki MC, launched her onto the pavement, where she was hit by two cars, according to California Highway Patrol.

The victim, a 36-year-old woman from Merced, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.

There were three drivers involved in the crash: a woman who initially struck the woman, another woman who struck her bike after the crash, and a man who also hit the motorcyclist, the CHP said.

Nobody else was injured.
