Hundreds of parishioners attend the annual Way of the Cross procession at Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church during Good Friday in the Fruitvale district of Oakland, Friday afternoon.

For over 20 years Saint Elizabeth Church members participate in Holy Week reenactments, which brings hundreds of parishioners every year, said church member and volunteer Marlene Gutierrez.

Jesus Medina, 28, was chosen to portray Jesus for the second time in a row for the same church. “I’m fortunate to represent Jesus,” Medina say, who lost 7 family members, including his parents and his son in a tragic semi truck accident in Mexico two years ago, he said. When he reenacts the role of Jesus, he dedicates to his loved family, he added.
