Alex Trebek signed off following the final day of taping for the 35th year of “Jeopardy!”, and he told fans of the popular game show that he planned to return later this year for another season of posing questions in the form of answers.

Trebek, 78, was diagnosed last month with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, but he remained optimistic in a video message in which he thanked viewers for their continued support.

“Some of you may recall that at the beginning of this season I promised you that we had some surprises in store for you,” Trebek began the message, which was posted on the show’s Twitter account. “Well, of course, I had no idea at that time that there were some surprises in store for me as well. So here on the last day of taping for our 35th anniversary season, I wanted once again to thank you for your continuing messages of encouragement and support, particularly the many cards I’ve received from young people. I’m touched beyond words.”

Trebek added that he was feeling healthy as he undergoes treatment.

“I’ve always tried to be straight with you and I’m not going to stop now. So despite what you may have heard, I’m feeling good. I’m continuing with my therapy,” he said.

He concluded the message by saying preparations for a 36th season had already begun, and that he planned to be back on air.

“So I like forward to seeing you once again in September with all kinds of good stuff,” he said.

Trebek rung a similarly optimistic tone when he announced the diagnosis last month.

“Now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this, and I’m going to keep working,” he in an earlier video. “And with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease.”

Trebek joked that he had no choice because he was contractually obligated to return.

“Truth told, I have to! Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host ‘Jeopardy!’ for three more years!” he said. “So help me. Keep the faith and we’ll win. We’ll get it done. Thank you.”
