The intruder moving around in the bathroom wasn’t actually a burglar. It wasn’t even actually an intruder, sheriff’s deputies found after armed response to a 911 call.

The deputies in Washington County, west of Portland, received a 911 call on Monday from a woman who said someone had broken into her home and was locked in the bathroom.

She said she could see shadows moving under the door.

Deputies and Beaverton police officers responded to the scene ready to take down a burglar. They could hear noises coming from behind the door, but the suspect wasn’t responding to commands to come out.

So with guns drawn, officers opened the door, ready to pounce.

They found a Roomba, a robotic vacuum cleaner, that had accidentally locked itself in the bathroom.

“We breached the bathroom door and encountered a very thorough vacuuming job,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post Tuesday.

The case is now closed — but not before the sheriff’s office shared a “captured” photo of the culprit.
