Outside Lands has announced its lineup — for 2021.
Yes, organizers finally announced on Wednesday that, as long expected, the popular multi-day music festival, held annually at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park since 2008, would not be happening in 2020 due to the ongoing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
Yet, they also managed to throw in a major surprise at the same time by announcing the lineup for next year’s Outside Lands.
Lizzo, the Strokes and Tame Impala are set to headline the festival, which is scheduled for Aug. 6-8, 2021. Tyler, the Creator, Vampire Weekend, J Balvin, Kehlani and The 1975 are among the other top acts scheduled to appear.
The full lineup is listed below.
“We are thrilled for the festival to be coming back in 2021. There’s been a lot of bad news out there with regard to COVID-19 and we want to give people something to look forward to,” said Allen Scott, head of concerts and festivals at Berkeley-based Another Planet Entertainment and co-producer of Outside Lands.
Three-day passes are set to go on sale at 10 a.m. June 25 www.SFOutsideLands.com. Fans can pay the full amount upfront, or opt instead for a payment plan that starts at $99 down and no additional payments until 2021.
Those who purchased presale “Eager Beaver” passes for the 2020 festival can use them for admittance to the 2021 Outside Lands or request a refund.
The lineup presents a nice mix of top-tier headliners, such as Lizzo and Tame Impala, and up-and-coming acts like Melanie Martinez, Remi Wolf and Marc Rebillet. The musical styles range from indie-rock royalty (the Strokes) and cutting-edge hip-hop (Tyler, the Creator) to reggaeton (J Balvin) and even Mongolian heavy metal (the Hu).
The overall bill appears very similar to what was seen on a 2020 lineup that was accidentally leaked back in April. So it appears most of the artists on this year’s scuttled festival re-signed to come next year.
Beyond music, the festival will once again feature its curated cannabis area, Grass Lands, as well as top-notch food and drink from around the Bay Area.
“Outside Lands was created to celebrate the Bay Area creative community and the small businesses that are the fabric of San Francisco’s culture,” says Rick Farman, festival co-producer and co-founder of event producer Superfly. “Given everything that our community is going through, we will continue that mission with a renewed focus as we plan for the 2021 event.”
