Kamala Harris’ searing showdown with Joe Biden over race and segregation at Thursday’s Democratic debates in Miami was only the latest of the former Bay Area prosecutor’s intense face-offs with some of Washington’s most powerful figures.

In the California senator’s first 2½ years in office, she’s built her reputation as a fierce inquisitor, tangling on Capitol Hill with a who’s who of Trump appointees and nominees.

Here’s a sampling of her most buzz-worthy battles.

June 27, 2019: Harris vs. former Vice President Joe Biden

In what’s being called Harris’ breakout moment in a still-early campaign for the White House, she shares her own story of being bused to school in Berkeley while delivering a withering criticism of Biden’s embrace of working with segregationist senators.

June 13, 2017: Harris vs. Attorney General Jeff Sessions

Democrats were growing frustrated how then Attorney General Jeff Sessions refused to answer many of their questions about whether the White House would assert executive privilege in the Russia investigation. That’s when Harris took a turn.

Sept. 6, 2018: Harris vs. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh

In the pre-Christine Blasey Ford hearing, Harris tangled with Kavanaugh over whether he had discussed the Mueller investigation with someone at the law firm that had long represented Trump. “I think you are thinking of someone and you don’t want to tell us.”
