James McAvoy (“Split,” “Glass”) wanders a surreal funhouse, Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “Mama”) cheers a round of drinks to the “Losers Club” of misfits heroes who’ve grown up since the first film and Bill Skarsgård again terrifies as Pennywise the Clown in the new “It: Chapter 2” trailer Warner Bros. released Thursday.

McAvoy and Chastain’s characters are the adult versions of the kids seen in the first “It” film, while the film will also introduce Bill Hader (HBO’s “Barry,” “The Skeleton Twins”) as Richie, Isaiah Mustafa (TV’s “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments”) as Mike, Jay Ryan (TV’s “Mary Kills People”) as Ben, James Ransone (HBO’s “The Wire”) as Eddie, and Andy Bean (“Allegiant,” Starz’ “Power”) as Stanley.

The original members of the Losers Club, seen as children in the first movie, reunite and reprise their roles here too: Flashbacks will show Jaeden Martell as Bill, Wyatt Oleff as Stanley, Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie, Finn Wolfhard as Richie, Sophia Lillis as Beverly, Chosen Jacobs as Mike, and Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben. The second half of the two-part film adaptation of “It,” Stephen King’s 1986 novel comes out Sept. 6.

This film picks up decades after the first part, a gap which production company New Line Cinema explains in the movie’s official synopsis: “Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, ‘IT CHAPTER TWO’ brings the characters — who’ve long since gone their separate ways — back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film.”

‘It: Chapter 2’ is director Andrés Muschietti’s follow-up to 2017’s “IT,” which grossed over $700 million globally, according to the movie’s official website.
