Here we are, cupcake fans. Nearly three weeks ago, we asked readers to help us choose the Bay Area’s tastiest cucpakes, bracket-style. You delivered, narrowing down 16 selections to the Amazing Eight, a collection of independent bakeries and cupcake shops that made us proud.
And now, the results of the Final Four have come in, and there were a few close results. With a narrow victory, Cupcake Shoppe in Hayward bested Cupcakin’ Bake Shop in Berkeley and Oakland, 51 to 49 percent. Meanwhile, San Jose’s Frost Cupcake beat out Antioch’s Rivertown Sweets, 57 to 43 percent.
Crowned Cupcake of Pinole took the title from Los Gatos’ Icing on the Cake, 54 to 46 percent, while Love at First Bite in Berkeley bested Buttercup Cakes & Farmhouse Frosting in Santa Cruz, 56 to 44 percent.
