A man authorities believe to be behind a shooting in Sunnyvale last week was arrested in Hayward on Wednesday and charged with attempted murder.
Sunnyvale police, with SWAT team help, located Wesley Wayne Saukitoga at a Hayward apartment complex and booked him into Santa Clara County Jail.
Saukitoga, 36, was charged with attempted murder in a shooting last Wednesday, May 13, that left one other person wounded. Police found a victim with one gunshot wound around 11 p.m. in the 300 block of Orchard Avenue, a residential neighborhood on the north side of Sunnyvale.
Authorities identified Saukitoga, an East Palo Alto resident, as a suspect and worked with Hayward police to locate him at an apartment complex Tuesday. On Wednesday, officers from Sunnyvale DPS and the Hayward PD SWAT team raided the complex and took Saukitoga into custody “without incident,” police said.
The investigation is ongoing and authorities asked anyone with information to contact Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Detective Barron Renzi at (408) 730-7712 or brenzi@sunnyvale.ca.gov.
