Peaceful protests continued in the Bay Area as demonstrators again marched and called for a stop to police brutality.
Demonstrations were held in Pleasanton, San Francisco, Clayton, San Jose, Pittsburg and elsewhere in the region as outrage over the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody brought people together to send a message. In Pleasanton, nearly 3,000 gathered at Amador Valley Community Park and marched down Santa Rita Road to Valley Avenue. Mostly teens such as Mackenzie Reese organized the protest as Foothill High School Vice Principal Malcolm Norrington, who is also a former officer, addressed the crowd. Pleasanton police Chief David Swing spoke as well.
Meanwhile, in Clayton, a crowd of 200 gathered and listened to Mayor Julie Pierce, and to black community members speaking about their personal experiences with racism. San Francisco saw a Critical Mass-style bike ride through the city with participants holding signs of support for Breonna Taylor, another person killed by police in Louisville, Kentucky. More protests are scheduled in that city on Saturday. In San Jose, a die-in protest was held.
