President Donald Trump picked the wrong woman to have a Twitter fight with. After all, Chrissy Teigen is just as comfortable on the social media platform as the president and is willing to give a energetic clap back to any insult, galvanizing her 11.5 million followers and getting new hashtags trending.
The Trump vs. Teigen showdown began Sunday night after the president attacked Teigen as singer John Legend’s “filthy mouthed wife.”
The source of Trump’s ire was Legend’s appearance on an MSNBC town hall special on criminal justice reform. The town hall aired after a “Dateline” episode hosted by NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt. Trump asserted that MSNBC did not give him enough credit for passing the bipartisan First Step Act, which is designed to reduce recidivism in federal prisons.
In a series of tweets, Trump said, “When all of the people pushing so hard for Criminal Justice Reform were unable to come even close to getting it done, they came to me as a group and asked for my help. I got it done with a group of Senators & others who would never have gone for it. Obama couldn’t come close … A man named @VanJones68, and many others, were profusely grateful (at that time!). I SIGNED IT INTO LAW, no one else did, & Republicans deserve much credit.”
Trump continued: “But now that it is passed, people that had virtually nothing to do with it are taking the praise. Guys like boring … musician @johnlegend, and his filthy mouthed wife, are talking now about how great it is — but I didn’t see them around when we needed help getting it passed.”
Legend responded to Trump with several tweets arguing that the leader of the free world spent his Sunday night “hate-watching” a TV show. He also implored first lady Melania Trump to help calm her husband.
Imagine being president of a whole country and spending your Sunday night hate-watching MSNBC hoping somebody–ANYBODY–will praise you. Melania, please praise this man. He needs you.

In typical fashion, Teigen had a more direct message — saying she spent the night before daughter Luna’s first day of school addressing the president’s “9th meltdown of the day.”
Luna, remember the night before your first day of school? When mommy was making your sign and the pussy ass bitch president had his 9th meltdown of the day pic.twitter.com/ZFZHJYrDPG

In another tweet, Teigen again referred to the president in her colorful way, which confirmed to some critics that she is indeed “foul-mouthed.”
Teigen pointed out that Trump “tagged everyone” but her, though the Daily Beast noted that the president blocked her on Twitter two years ago.
lol what a pussy ass bitch. tagged everyone but me. an honor, mister president.

Teigen later tweeted that Trump came after her even though she had nothing to do with the MSNBC special: “The absolute best part of his tweet is I literally didn’t speak in the special, nor was I mentioned. I’m cackling at the pointless addition of me because he cannot not be a bitch.”

By early Monday, Teigen was the No. 1 trending topic, while the hashtags #filthymouthedwife, #TeamChrissy and #PussyAssBitchPresident were trending. One of Teigen’s followers joked about the hashtags going viral, saying that she needed to get them on T-shirts.
Ok, so I need t-shirts with #filthymouthedwife and #PussyAssBitchPresident now.
Who is getting these printed?

Then came the responses:
Aghhh. Y'all it's already been printed. People work fast.https://t.co/EEUKWblq8T

Others noted that Trump picked a formidable opponent for his latest Twitter feud:
If you come at the queen @chrissyteigen you best not miss https://t.co/irZxiiNy0S

I think Chrissy Teigen coined the phrase that will sum up the trump presidency: #PussyAssBitchPresident. https://t.co/fJFMCVa0Cp

During the #JusticeForAll special, Legend promoted his organization FREEAMERICA, which “aims to amplify the conversation about mass incarceration at the local, state, and national levels,” the Daily Beast said.
Tonight at 7pm PT/10pm ET, I will be joining @LesterHoltNBC for an @NBCNews Town Hall on @MSNBC to discuss our country’s broken criminal justice system. Follow @LetsFreeAmerica to learn more about my work to end mass incarceration. #JusticeForAll pic.twitter.com/9DFySXsgDY

The Daily Beast pointed out that Trump’s anger about not being appreciated enough by MSNBC for the First Step Act was misplaced. During the “Dateline” episode that preceded the town hall, Holt explicitly gave Trump credit for passing the law, showing footage of him signing the bill in the Oval Office and noting that it is “projected to reduce the sentences of thousands of non-violent offenders in federal prisons.”
Holt, however, added the bill won’t “affect more than 90 percent of the U.S. prison population, which is locked up in state and local facilities.”
People reported that Legend and Teigen both have been outspoken critics of Trump, with Legend earlier this year calling the president a “flaming racist” because he described Baltimore as a “rodent infested mess,” People reported.
Before Trump was elected in 2016, Teigen called him “truly an (expletive) monster.”
