We Californians are lucky. Family road trips and weekend getaways are fodder for some of the most stunning snaps on Instagram — period. From San Diego’s sunny beaches to the geological wonders of Yosemite National Park, we fill our phones and social media pages with beautiful scenery and day dream-worthy images as often as others post wacky food shots.
Global travel website Big 7 Travel has caught on to California’s visual appeal and popularity, ranking the state third after New York and Texas in a survey of the country’s seven most Instagrammable states. The survey also includes the seven best spots to visit in each state for a guaranteed stellar Instagram photo.
Which landmarks made the cut in California? From Northern California, you’ll be proud to see Lake Tahoe’s glistening Emerald Bay and San Francisco’s Painted Ladies of Alamo Square. Down south? Balboa Park, home to museums and the world-famous San Diego Zoo, rose to the top, along with Venice Beach and the Hollywood sign.
To make its selections, Big 7 Travel used a scoring system that analyzed the amount of hashtags per destination, survey results from parent site Big 7 Media’s 1.5 million audience and votes cast by a panel of travel experts.
According to a press release, “These are the places where you’ll find sweeping stretches of beach, majestic canyons, kitsch cocktail bars and more street art than you can possibly imagine.”
