Julianne Moore says she’s only been fired twice.
The first time was from a yogurt stand when she was 15. The second time was for a more prominent position — as the lead in the 2018 film “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”
How does this happen to an Oscar winner and five-time nominee? Moore, 58, she and screenwriter Nicole Holofcener didn’t see eye to eye, according to Too Fab.
“Yeah, yeah. Nicole fired me,” Moore said during her appearance Thursday on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” on Bravo. “I think she didn’t like what I was doing.
“We hadn’t shot anything yet; we’d just been kind of rehearsing and doing pre-production and stuff, and I think that her idea of where the character was was different than where my idea of the character was, so she fired me.”
Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, the talk show’s other guest, wasn’t that comforting upon hearing the story.
“That must feel so rejected to be fired,” she said.
“It’s pretty bad,” Moore replied.
Moore said she hasn’t been able to watch the film “because it’s still kind of painful.” However, she had nothing but glowing things to say about Melissa McCarthy, the actress who took over for Moore and scored a best actress Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Lee Israel.
“I love Melissa McCarthy,” Moore said. “I worship her. I think she’s fantastic, so I’m sure she’s great.”
Moore won the best actress Oscar for 2015’s “Still Alice.” She has two other best actress nominations (2000’s “The End of the Affair” and 2003’s “Far from Heaven”), and two more for best supporting actress (1998’s “Boogie Nights” and 2003’s “The Hours”).
During her conversation with Cohen, Moore was ecstatic as she spoke about her newly discovered cousin Marisa Tomei; the two were co-stars in 2011’s “Crazy, Stupid, Love.”
Tomei, 54, found out about the familial tie when she appeared on the PBS genealogy show “Finding Your Roots.”
“OK so, I’ve known Marisa since she was 19 and loved her and we’ve been friends and seen each other back and forth,” Moore told Cohen. “I found out actually before it was revealed on the show because a friend of mine was editing the show and said, ‘Oh, my God — Marisa Tomei is your cousin!’ So I texted her and I was like, ‘Oh, my God!'”
