Thirty-five schools in the Bay Area are among the 162 statewide named to the 2019 list of California Distinguished Schools.

The list, released Monday by the state’s Department of Education, was compiled using performance indicators including test scores, graduation rates and suspension rates. Schools could qualify through exceptional student performance or notable improvement.

The program honors middle schools and high schools in odd-numbered years and elementary schools in even-numbered years.
