NFL TV ratings: Who drew more viewers -- 49ers or Chiefs?

(UPDATED) The 49ers piled up some impressive statistics during their 37-20 victory over the Green Bay Packers at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday. And so did the Fox telecast.

The network reported that the NFC Championship Game drew an average audience of 43.57 million viewers. The telecast peaked with 46.13 million viewers.

Still, the NFC title game was tackled for a loss in the ratings compared with that same time slot a year ago. That game, featuring the New England Patriots’ dramatic overtime victory over the Chiefs in the AFC finale on CBS came in at 53.9 million viewers and was the most-watched conference title game in a half-decade.

In comparison to the 49ers-Packers, Sunday’s AFC title game between the Kansas City Chiefs game averaged 41.105 million viewers for its entirety and peaked at 46.755 million.

The AFC game earned a 23.1/50 Nielsen fast national average household rating/share, making it the highest-rated television program on any network since Super Bowl LIII programming on CBS on Feb. 3, 2019.

The 49ers-Packers game dominated its competition and gave a solid lead-in to Fox’s premiere of “9-1-1: Lone Star.” The show was Fox’s most-watched debut in 11 years (excluding post-Super Bowl programming), with 11.5 million viewers.

The Super Bowl between the 49ers and Chiefs will be played Feb. 2 on Fox.
