Get ready for another big week of shows in the Bay Area, highlighted by the kick off the SFJazz season as well as the return of Iron Maiden and Heart. Here are some of our top concert picks:
SFJAZZ
The legendary Ahmad Jamal, who ranks among the genre’s all-time great pianists, kicks off SFJazz Center’s 2019-2020 season with four highly anticipated shows, Sept. 5-8, in San Francisco.
The season lineup also includes such fabulous acts as Veronica Swift (Sept. 5-8), Lizz Wright (Sept. 12), Tierney Sutton and Ann Hampton Callaway (Sept. 15), the Christian McBride Big Band (Sept. 29), Larry Grenadier (Oct. 25) and Vijay Iyer Trio (Oct. 26).

Iron Maiden
The third greatest metal band of all time — trailing only Black Sabbath and Metallica, respectively – is ready to rock the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on Sept. 9 and Oracle Arena on Sept. 10. The Raven Age opens both shows.

Heart
Ann and Nancy Wilson lead their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act, known for such classics as “Crazy on You” and “Magic Man,” to the Concord Pavilion on Sept. 6. Also on the bill are Joan Jett and The Blackhearts as well as Elle King.

Eric Clapton
The master guitarist is the only three-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, having been enshrined as a solo artist as well as a member of each the Yardbirds and Cream. Clapton performs Sept. 11 at Chase Center in San Francisco. Jimmie Vaughan is also on the bill.
