First Aid Kit returned to the Bay Area on Sept. 28 and delivered a thoroughly entertaining show at the Masonic in San Francisco.
The highlight of the show, however, was definitely when the Swedish country-folk-pop duo – consisting of Klara and Johanna Soderberg – performed a gorgeous cover of Neil Young’s “After the Gold Rush.”
First Aid Kit was joined in the rendition by one of the opening acts, Julia Jacklin, combining to deliver amazing three-part harmonies.

The band modeled its version on the cover of “After the Gold Rush” done by the country music supergroup known as the Trio, which consisted of Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt.
Yeah, that’s definitely a supergroup that lives up to the title.
Trio covered that song on their second album, “Trio II,” which was recorded in 1994 but not released until 1999.
So, as the band explained it, they were performing a cover of a cover.
It’s yet another connection between First Aid Kit and Emmylou Harris. The two sisters — Klara (lead vocals/guitar) and Johanna (vocals/bass) — also perform a song called “Emmylou,” which takes its title from the country music great.
The group is known for its great cover songs.
During First Aid Kit’s previous visit to the Bay Area — back in January at the Fox Theater in Oakland — it rocked through a solid version of Heart’s “Crazy On You.”
The group also does a great version of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.”
