Some lyrics in the new Ariana Grande song “Thank U, Next” seem to have caught the attention of the star’s fans.
It comes midway through the newly released song, which name-checks such previous romantic interests as Mac Miller and Pete Davidson.
And, to many ears, the lyrics go a little something like this:
“I ain’t worried ’bout nothin’
Plus, I met someone else
We havin’ better discussions
I know they say I move on too fast
But this one gon’ last
‘Cause her name is Aubrey
And I’m so good with that (So good with that)”
The name Aubrey, in that context, had many fans on social media wondering who this “Aubrey” was that Grande is now apparently dating. Some even thought that Grande was using the song to come out.
The problem is — they weren’t hearing the lyrics right. Whoops!
She apparently wasn’t saying “Aubrey,” but was instead saying “Ari” — as in a reference to herself.
Again, whoops!
It didn’t help matters that Apple Music listed the name as “Aubrey” in the lyrics, according to the Huffington Post.
Fix the lyrics!!! It’s not Aubrey!!! It’s ARI!!! pic.twitter.com/NwVjr9VCJZ

Grande, perhaps in response to all the confusion, would eventually tweet out the lyric herself:
cause her name is Ari …. n i’m so good w thaaaat

And that led to many others admitting that they had heard the lyric wrong in the first place.
