Got a hankering for crispy, flaky, deliciously-stuffed lumpia? You’re in luck. Lumpia Palooza is the most delicious way we can think of to celebrate Filipino-American History Month — and it’s this weekend.
Some of the Bay Area’s best Filipino food vendors, including the Lumpia Company, Señor Sisig, the Sarap Shop and Adobos N More will be rolling up and frying sweet, savory and spicy versions of ready-to-dunk lumpia from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at SoMa StrEat Food Park.
Look for traditional and novel flavors — everything from garlic and cheeseburger to kare kare and chicken afritada — plus Filipino-inspired desserts, including turons and cheesecakes. Housemade sangria and San Miguel beer will wash down those eats and Lumpia Company chef Alex Retodo’s lumpia-rolling demo and lumpia-eating contest will round out the festivities.
We’ll leave you with a hyphenated bit of inspiration: lumpia-chilada.
SoMa StrEat Food Park is located at 428 11th St., San Francisco. General admission tickets are $5. Kids 10 and under are free. Find out more at Lumpia Palooza.
