Many music fans — especially those who dig hip-hop — weren’t exactly thrilled at the notion of bland pop-rockers Maroon 5 performing for the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2019.
And for good reason. The show is in Atlanta, which boasts one of the hottest hip-hop scenes on the planet. And Maroon 5 is about as far away from hip-hop — and Atlanta — as possible.
Now comes reports that Cardi B could be part of the Halftime festivities.
“Our sources say Cardi is in negotiations to perform her song with Maroon 5, ‘Girls Like You’ — and the main issue being discussed is whether or not CB gets a solo set. We’re told she’s getting a lot of offers to perform in early February … so she’s trying to make the best deal possible,” TMZ reports.
A Cardi B solo set would certainly add some intrigue to the show, something that is sorely missing with just Maroon 5 — aka, the most boring pick imaginable.

So, we are definitely rooting for Cardi on this one.
But the NFL doesn’t like to be told what to do. And words like “compromise” and “negotiate” seemingly aren’t big in the league’s vocabulary.
The guess here is that the NFL will get its way and that Cardi B performs even without getting her own solo set. The value of making even a small appearance on the Halftime Show, in terms of worldwide exposure, is probably just too great for her to pass up.
