What kind of teddy bear will your 4-year-old pick out?

You can find out this week for only $4 — or $1 for every year of your child’s age.

To celebrate its new birthday promotion, Build-A-Bear Workshop will host its first-ever Pay Your Age Day on Thursday, July 12.

Any customer who signs up in advance and shows up at a Build-A-Bear store can select any “furry friend” in the collection that day and pay their age in dollars to make it their own. (Outfits, accessories, music and scents are not included.)

The minimum price is $1. And what if you are a 64-year-old grandma with no kids in tow? The most anyone will pay that day for a no-frills critter is $29, the company says.

The savings depend on the selection. Most furry friends cost from $20 to $30 without accessories, a spokeswoman said.

Thursday’s promotion is a launch event for Build-A-Bear’s new “Count Your Candles” birthday program in which customers age 14 and under will receive a free Birthday Treat bear on their big day.

To take advantage of Thursday’s offer, customers must sign up online or at the store for the company’s Build-A-Bear Bonus Club. All children must be accompanied by an adult member of the Bonus Club.
