San Jose vice mayor Charles ‘Chappie’ Jones and other city officials address the PG&E power shutdown that will leave parts of east and south San Jose without electricity.

In the Bay Area, the notice affects the counties of San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Solano, Sonoma and Napa.

Besides the Bay Area, the notice covers portions of the counties of Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Mariposa, Mendocino, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, San Joaquin, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Stanislaus, Tehama, Trinity, Tuolumne, Yolo and Yuba.

In all, nearly 800,000 PG&E customers in 34 California counties may be affected by the outage, which could last for days in some cases.

PG&E says the map information should be considered a “general guideline.”  For the latest updates or to check whether a specific address is expected to be affected, go to PG&E’s website. The utility will also attempt to notify customers before their electricity is cut.
