The Bay Area’s evolving ice cream scene has given rise to some pretty heated debates over who makes the best scoop of cold, creamy goodness.

Whether you’re devoted to old-school parlors like Fentons Creamery and Restaurant in Oakland or prefer your ice cream from a small gourmet scoop shop like Sweet Scoops in Sonoma, one thing is certain: This calls for an ice cream bracket.

We asked readers to nominate their favorite Bay Area scoop shops. Now we’re pitting 32 ice cream spots against one another to see which restaurant deserves the title of Top Scoop — and asking you to be judge, jury and eater.

Weigh in on the brackets below using Firefox or Safari as your browser (Chrome can be problematic) and be sure to click the “done” button when you’re finished to submit your votes.

First-round voting closes at 10 a.m. on Sept. 6. Voting for the Sweet 16 begins that afternoon at 4 p.m. Happy scooping!
